A Fresh Taste Of Italy

OUR STORY

After travelling for many years, Domenico decided to settle down in the UK. After working as a kitchen porter in an Italian restaurant in Essex, his boss found about his talent and asked him to move to Somerset where he was going to open another restaurant and be the Manager.
After 7 years working in Somerset, Domenico decided it was time to open his own restaurant and with the help of family, friends, council and the local community, Tamburino Ristorante was born on the 27th February 2005, bringing a fresh taste of Italy to Yeovil.

After winning an award from the Western Gazette in 2006, in 2007 Tamburino was invited to cook meals for the athletes that were competing in Sherborne’s ‘Iron Man’. Getting further involved with the local community, Tamburino decided to bring some of the action into Yeovil… With the help of town centre manager at the time Ian Budd, they decided to attempt a Guinness world record. In June 2008 Tamburino created the longest line of pizzas ever made in the world measuring 476.7 metres! Now that’s a lot of pizza – 2129 of them to be exact!

In 2008 Tamburino’s expanded and opened Tamburino Caffe, supplying delicious treats for a quick lunchtime bite. This proved so popular it was rebranded in early 2014 to Pizza Pasta Mondo which now does delicious lunch and snacks but also delivers fresh Italian food to your doorstep 7 days a week till late!

In 2009 Tamburino was nominated at the PAPA (Pizza, Pasta and Italian food Association) Awards as best independent Italian restaurant in the U.K. for the effort Tamburino’s put on, producing a real Italian atmosphere and authentic Italian food , the whole Italian package. Tamburino won the platinum award after being judged by mystery diners beating restaurants from London, Glasgow and all over the U.K. This success was recreated in 2014 when they won the same award, showing our top notch food and dining experience once again.

Due to popular demand, in 2011 Tamburino Gold opened in Sherborne in a partnership between Domenico and Chef Miguel! This was quickly joined by Tamburino Village in Street in 2012, which features a delightful al fresco dining area and has proven very popular during the summer months!

From 2010, Tamburino has been really proud to be supporting local charities through sales of some of our pasta dishes. Each Restaurant has chosen a local charity to support. Tamburino in Yeovil supports Yeovil Opportunity Group, Tamburino Gold supports Friends of the Yeatman Hospital and Tamburino Village supports St. Margaret’s Hospice. These charities do such important work we want to show our support for them!

OUR FOUNDER

Owner Domenico Taravella is from Sicily, where passion runs deep. No more so than the passion for food and hospitality. In fact, Domenico began his restaurant career at the tender age of 14 – not surprising, because as he says, “Food and drink are part of the culture of my country. We embrace them at a very young age!”
